Art not only serves as a mode of expression but also encompasses a broad spectrum within the curriculum, significantly contributing to the enhancement of creativity, emotional articulation, manual skills, and aesthetic judgment. In the realm of special education schools, art education constitutes an integral component of the educational offerings. Presently, special education schools across different regions of China grapple with challenges such as the unequal distribution of educational resources and a scarcity of specialized educators, leading to variations in the richness of the art curriculum. Games, embodying a universal form of entertainment with diverse types and adaptable gameplay, additionally offer educational and therapeutic benefits. Within special education settings, games are an essential aspect of students' extracurricular engagements. A substantial collection of game case studies could furnish extensive references for the integration of games into art practices in special education schools, and the inherent adaptability of games allows for the development of unique designs suited to the specific needs of diverse institutions.
This investigation adopts methodologies including case studies, observational techniques, literature review, and theoretical analysis, complemented by field research, to explore the art curriculum and gaming experiences of students at the Aino Special Education School in Shanxi. The study identifies that the institution offers a narrow selection of art courses characterized by simplistic content, operates under a stringent management regime, and provides limited opportunities for student engagement in gaming activities. Addressing this situation, the researcher employs gaming as a pedagogical strategy, melding it with art education through the conceptualization and implementation of art projects during students' leisure time. This initiative aims to augment the art curriculum without disrupting the educational continuum, enhance the utilization of campus activity spaces, and broaden the spectrum of gaming opportunities for students. Through interactive engagement with games, students are encouraged to observe their surroundings, discover enjoyment in their routine school life, and develop autonomous problem-solving skills, thereby fostering their holistic development.
